Diabetes and Surgery: Guidelines for optimal perioperative clinical control of the diabetic patient
Abstract
Perioperative management of the diabetic patient can be a difficult challenge to operating theatre staff, and diabetic patients have greater probability of being submitted to surgery than non-diabetic patients. The Portuguese Society of Anesthesiology promoted a review on this important subject according to recent advances in this field, relating to the type of surgery, diabetic patient and quality improvement inPortuguese hospitals. Guidelines are proposed to improve perioperative management of diabetic patients.
