Abstract

Metastases to the thyroid gland are infrequent. However, it is necessary to consider secondary lesion when evaluating a nodule in the thyroid. One of the most common primary sites is the kidney. FNAC (fine needle aspiraton cytology) associated with immunohistochemical stains is an important instrument in the diagnosis of thyroid nodules. The surgical treatment of renal cell carcinoma associated to solitary metastasis is radical nephrectomy and excision of the metastasis. We report a case of renal cell carcinoma that presented initially with secondary lesion in the thyroid gland. The diagnosis was made after thyroidectomy and nephrectomy and immunotherapy were then performed.
